Our story

The French Oven Bakery and Café was opened by local Scripps Ranch residents, Yves Fournier, and his wife, Susie.

Chef Yves grew up in France, in a small village at the base of the French Alps called Veyrier du Lac. Baking has always been a Fournier family tradition, and today, He represents the 5th generation of bakers in his family. An old family bakery sign from 1840 hangs on the wall of The French Oven. This is only the 2nd time I have been here and I love the food and the atmosphere here. Located in a small group of stores in the Scripps Ranch community, The French Oven is truly a find. With a variety of French desserts and pastries, there is something for everyone! I came here for lunch after a nearby home inspection and realized I will not be home for dinner tonight. The breakfast sandwich was calling me for lunch. My preference would have been for the veggie one but they were out so I have the regular. It was delicious!I grabbed a salad for dinner and of course I had to ground one of the fruit tarts for dessert. There is not a sweet I do not like LOLI have several past clients living in this neighborhood and I am planning on inviting them here for breakfast or lunch real soon now that we are safe to go out again!

We had to wait in line for about 25 mins and it was maybe 10am on a Saturday. Everyone was waiting in line and just an FYI there is no online ordering (which confused me, because I saw ppl getting their orders on bags outside with the names).I came here soley for the almond croissant and it was definitely the best almond croissant I had. I've had almond croissants at Ariscault in SF and some other places here and there. But this place makes the best one. The size is also a lot bigger and the filling is on a different level. The crunch on the outside and the moistness inside is something I dream about in my sleep. I hope they don't change anything about their croissants.Everytime I visit my parent in laws in SD, I am definitely driving by to pick some almond croissants!

5/5 $4.50 almond croissant: This was such a treat to eat. It has sweet almond paste filled in the middle of a fluffy croissant with crispy, toasted, sliced almonds and powdered sugar on top. Definitely a lot of sugar for just me.5/5 parking: ample parking provided even with part of the lot under construction.4/5 ambiance: order inside and you have the option to eat outside on tables or maybe have a picnic across the street at the park. There is no indoor seating.

Can't say enough great things about this authentic, delicious, family-owned business. First off, Yves, the owner, is as kind of a person as can be, and is often at the bakery checking on the clients and making sure everything is running smoothly.  He ensures great service and is a wonderful family man. Truly a pleasure to contribute to this wonderful business given the person who owns it is an exemplary human being. On to the food: nothing has ever disappointed, and my husband is French and very exacting in his expectations of French baked goods. There are many imitators in San Diego, but this place is the real deal. The bread and all the creations are delectable and baked to perfection. The Friday night dinners are a special treat that we recently happened upon, and love to enjoy from time to time also. Yves is a 5th generation baker from France, and you can tell in every bite of his delicious pastries. Our daughter celebrated her first birthday and our custom-ordered cakes were INCREDIBLE. All the guests asked where we got them, and they were as beautiful as they tasted. Can't wait for another excuse to order these delicious cakes! The tutti frutti, with the chocolate base, was my favorite. You can't go wrong here; get ready for the best French treats in town when you finally stop in!

Absolutely love this place. Their almond croissants are to die for!! The crispiest croissant I've ever had! And they have a great selection of pastries too! The only downside is that if you don't get there early, you don't have as much of a selection (like the Nutella brioche I've only been able to get once) but it's because it's that good. It's really out of the way for me so I've only been here once but my sister lives nearby so she gets it for us every chance she gets. My goal is to try one of each thing from here!
